'Fawlty Towers' and 'The Beano' comparison

Within ‘Fawlty Towers’ the audience are presented with a female character, the female character represents a traditional, middle class elegant woman because she is in the kitchen most of the time. The housewife represents many women of the 1970s because she has a passive royal in society and is being delegated by the male to go back into the kitchen. This emphasises on the aspect that ‘Fawlty Towers’ represents the idea of a patriarchal society because the man has all power for, he stands at the front desk of the hotel and accompanies the guests. The idea of a patriarchal society is shown through the comic strip of ‘The Beano’ because within the first few captions there is a male teacher who educates his class whom, majority are boys.

Within ‘The Beano’ there is a battle between how appearance is reflected through the perception of others. Within the ‘The Beano’ there is two female characters one whom can be classified as a ‘ladette’ a girl who behaves like a boy and secondly, you have the pretty feminine girl whom is into her beauty and appearance. ‘Ladettes’ are females whom have the quality of males and rather dress a certain way to gain authority and statue within society- many feminists would suggests ‘ladettes’ are a new form of girl power because they are going for males jobs and becoming stronger and more dominate. The ‘ladette’ girl in ‘The Beano’ is seen as the final girl because she is the one who exposes the pretty girl to be blind- because she is flirtatious to a not so good-looking boy. The battle between females is part of their female intuition because it is like a competition to see who is more pretty and who will actually last between the boys.

‘The Beano’ is situated in a school, the hypodermic needle suggests that whatever an audience sees on any type of media they would emulate therefore, the ideologies being drip fed to the readers of ‘ The Beano’ is the theme of education. Educational factors are also, present within ‘Fawlty Towers’ because the main man is talking about the Great War and how the Germans were defeated – the historical contexts adds parody to the Great War which has an entertaining factor to the audience how they are indoctrinated to listen to the historical knowledge being portrayed to them.

Why Big Brother Is Ideal For Virgin Media

Virgin owned by Sir Richard Branson has staggered with their audiences and have become quite unpopular. Having ventured out to mobiles, internet and now television Virgin was finding it hard to compete with SKY the biggest institution known for digital television.

However, Virgin Media have decided to sponsor Big Brother after Carphone Warehouse dropped them. The decision to sponsor the reality TV show was because of the race row and therefore thought that they could venture into a big project like Big Brother to gain their popularity again.

The big debate is that would ponder many of the peoples minds at Channel 4 and possibly viewers is that:
"The question is whether Channel 4 and Endemol will allow Virgin Media to use Big Brother as a showcase or just pocket Branson's cash while they continue to work on their own digital plans for the show"

My own opinion:
I personally feel Richard Branson is looking to gain popularity and knowing that Big Brother will get his company noticed is a clever way of gaining profit within his business. The man is smart!!!

...Blue Peter phone- in recieved 14,000 calls...

During a fone in competiton a grand total of 14,000 people called in but due to technical faults the show had faked a winner!!! Whomever called in was not part of the competition 'guess whos shoes'. A young girl who was just visiting the show was asked to call with the right answer and was proclaimed the winner.

Figures to show Blue Peters gainings in money...
- 3.5p of the 10p call going to Unicef, it raised £450.52 for the children's charity.
- £727.75 went to Cable & Wireless for the use of the phone-lines
-£207.93 to Telecom Express, which ran the competition and has donated its share to the appeal.

BBC explained that the technical difficulty was due to the fact that calls were flooding in and thereby everything just froze, the tv show carried on saying that the stand in was a mistake and did not think at the time if it was the best thing it was the spare of the moment.

My opinion:
I think that Blue Peter did not want to intentionally hurt anyone that called in - it was a technical difficulty and it was just meant to be the girl in the studio who was visiting. As long as Blue Peter have accepted they made a mistake, there is no problem.

Using the comparison of these two tests as your starting point explore the media issues and debates which they raise.

Rap music is a growing music genre within the contemporary society of today, the genre can not be categorised into one categorary such as only a music genre but has stemmed to globalising many other instituions such as fashion, print and last but not least the taking over other record labels. Nowadays the issues and debates presented within the genre are about a luxurious and lavish lifestyle, having the dream girl and having a lot of money however when the genre started out it promoted black unity and also asked questions on why black people are represented a certain way. Text one 'The Revolution will not be televised' by Gill Scott Heron is about black peoples representation within the media and text two 'Your revolution' by DJ Vadim ft Sarah Jones is about black womens rights and critcising the black media.

Black people in the media and society alone have had alot of grief groups such as the Civil Rights and far out groups such as the Black Panthers have protested and tried to challenge certain stereotypes that the hegemony present to us. In Verse 5 of Text one Heron speaks about a change and the aspect of black people being respected and things will be better 'There will be no pictures of pigs shooting down brothers in the instant replay'. Pigs is referring to the police, in the genre of rap music the police are known as many things such as 5.0 and PoPo, the reason for this is because of the respect the black people recieve from the police- at times it is unjustice and unfair. Heron, is emphasising on the fact that the revolution will change and the police will not pick up the gun and pull the trigger at every black person.

Text 2 is a parody and mocking of black people in the media- within the media there is a lot of competition between individual and groups of black people to be the best. Sarah states ' I'm Sarah Jones/ Not Foxy Brown'. Foxy Brown, is a female rapper who at times is quite a provocative rapper having produced a controversial album called 'Il Na Na' which proved to have explicit messages. Sarah Jones in her song is proving that she does not have to be the trophy on the man's arm but, is going to spread the word of black people and how people are seeing them in the media, by what they produce and broadcast on the television.

The comparison between the two texts is that they are sung and possibly written by Black people.Sarah Jones presents a feminist revolution and feminists but womens rights and Gill Scott Heron is speaking about how black people are pursued and also, at times referring to theorists Staurt Hall's theory of the black person being three things in the media which are: victim, entertainer and savage. Around the time Gill Scott Heron's song was released there was less black media involvement and therefore, they were shown as Hall's theory and in 1998 the media devlovped black people started to shine and the culture of being 'black and proud' was shown in Sarah Jones song however, she is mocking it at times.

Just like Sarah Jones, Gill Scott Heron mentions famous people but who are white 'Not sung by Glen Campbel, Tom Jones, Johnny Cash, Englebert Humperdink, or the RareEarth'. It seems as if Gill Scott is showing how the white society is a dominated area in the media and therefore everything is conducted by them but, there is no black person alongside them to amke a difference instead they are ' trying to slide that colour tv inti a stolen ambulance' - as seen as theifs. There is a real juxtaposition of class and ideologies between black and white people within this song because it seems if white people can be high media mogals but, black people have not reached that level yet until the revolution does not change.

In conclusion Text One shows a more critcal and possibly a stronger message of how black people were represented however, during the years the sterotypes have changed but some may say that they have altered slightly. Text two shows a more materialistic aspect towards the black culture which can be seen as a good and bad thing because they are starting to get jobs and earn respect in society and the other hand as sarah jones jas pointed out they are being materialistic.

I personally consume quite a bit of celebrity driven media, things such as:

Music cds

Dvds especially films based on dancing

Clothing Lines

Magazines especially ones specfic to RnB and Hip Hop

The reason why I consume these texts is because of the celebrity because if it is an artist that I really like I will purchase everything they have. But, also if I enjoy their work like in a film I would watch the film many times and possibly buy it on dvd. Knowing about celebrities is what makes people purchase any text.

Looking at an edition of a national tabloid, in what ways are celebrity related stories presented in this edition? Account for these representations

In tabloids such as the Sun celebrity gossip seems to be the main feature for example, if David Beckham buys something from a local shop it will be posted all over the newspaper, the reason for this is because they know that people are eager to know what their favourite celebrities are doing and what they are buying.

For example on The Suns website, the homepage features a lot of celebrity gossip for example there is a feature of Posh's new haircut and you can actually watch pictures of her with this new haircut. The Sun newpaper know this will cause a freenzy within society because many teengae girls and women would be interested to see how she has changed her hair and possibly decide to copy her exact hair style.

Also, there is a feature about celebritoes and their sex life. There is an article based on Gordan and Peter's sex life she says ' we've been at it like rabbits'. The audiences response would be read this article because they like to know the nitty gritty about the celebrities personal life, even if it is knowing whom they are getting initimate with.

The Brits has taken allthe craze over the anticipated match of Arsenal over Bolton the few facts that are shown to see how the craze started :

Match of the Day Live drew an average of 5.7 million viewers or 24% of the audience in the two hours it was up against the Brits on ITV1, which averaged 5.3 million viewers or 22%.
While at the Brits the viewers peaked at 6.3 million at 8pm, as the Scissor Sisters opened the show.

I think from the last term i have been working quite hard, i have been getting on with my work and feel that when I put my mind to it, i can actually do some really good pieces of work. But, still i wouldn't give myself an one, for attainment because I haven't produced consistant excellent work.

I still my effort is the same, but I think it maybe increasing because we are studying interesting topics. The whole discussion on Asians and now looking at genre will definitly allow me to do more and improve on my effort levels.

I can never be late or even miss a lesson because Mr Munro is my form tutor. But I am always in lessona and on time.

This is a DVD cover to the film 'You Got Served' which is part of the many American dance genre films, it is starring the young, African American born B2K aka (boys of the new millenium). Firstly at the top you can see a montage of shots of the main protagonists dancing and the red connotes blood or death but it could suggest a sense of romance/ love aswell. Inside that strip of montage shots of the characters dancing says 'special edition' which allows the consumer to be expecting more than a film but a film with features, which is good for marketing.

The main image is a longshot of a dance team and them watching a break dancer doing some move on the floor. The team is full of different ethnicities and cultures therefore, the demographic profiling of this film would be towards everyone but majority, appealing to Black people especially from America. The image is also lit from the front because you can see light reflecting off the dancers but also, the further you go on the crowd the darker it gets suggesting, a mystery. The dance group are representing the different cultures in America from Black, White to Latin.

The title itself is postioned at a slight angle and the typography is capitals, the title is quite big and also, the only type of writing that stands out in the whole dvd cover. 'You Got Served' suggests some sort, of competition or even, a defeat of some sort maybe referring to the dance battles. Dance battles, are quite popular within the African American race but, also, in America it is a way of young children from violated neighbourhoods to get out of trouble. 'You Got' is in a silver colour and is slightly smaller then "SERVED" which seems to be the most word in the whole of the title and its importance is reinforced by, the colour red.

This is a film poster for Vondie Curtis Hall's film 'Waist Deep', the film poster would appeal to the demographic of 15 to 20 year olds, middle class, males because of the characters and where they come from the geographical area would be America possibly, in the ghettos and mainly appeal to African Americans. Just, from the two main protagonists the film poster reveals alot about the type of target audience that Hall is directing his film to.

The image is of two African Americans Tyrese Gibson and Megan Good, who are shot in a long shot but, as the audience only Megan Goods' face is visible however, Tyrese is lit from the right and is shot in low key lighting but, fades into the background. The effect of the characters not revealing there facial features represents the engima from the film poster and possibly teh narrative of the film. The use of front key lighting on Tyreses's face highlights his face and also, certain aspects of his face such as his expression, his facial expression seems quite tense therefore, the lighting justs bolsters his infrasructure of his face. Whereas, Megan Good is lit low key but she seems too have a silhouette on the side of her face which connotes a mystery about her and her character in the film.

The mise- en- scene that is used in the film poster firstly, the props, the only iconography is a gun and that is placed in Tyrese's hand. The gun connotes protection therefore Tyrese seems to be the hero, the character identification of the charater is a theory by Propp. The tag lines next to the title are "His son. His Life. His freedom. He's taking them all back". This parallels the gun because, as the audience we are assume that Tyrese is looking for his son therefore, the gun is his protection. Secondly, we as the audience are aware of the film being purely based on the main character and that is Tyrese this bolsters Mulveys theory of men being hero's and masculine to save the day. The clothing, of each character is pretty urban and casual you would assume, that it is following the type of lifestyle they live. The female, Megan Good, is wearing possibly a pair of shorts or even a denim skirt but, also is wearing a pink sleeveless top. Pink connotes girly, pretty therefore suggesting that Megan Good seems to be the more feable and weaker character out of hr and Tyrese. Many African American women wear short clothes with weaves which is part of their fashion and culture. The camera is fetishizing her body components such as her legs and her breasts which allow the male viewers to fetishize over her and also, have a certain type of sexual arrousal over her, this is stated by Mulvey and her theory about Male gaze. A stereotype that is usually associated with Black women is that they are very provocative and suggestive her pose, would reinforce that idea because she is wearing very short clothes. However, Tyrese is wearing a tank top, jeans and has a very athletic body with tattoos over his body. This is also, a stereotype that is associated with African Americans because of his surroundings and how fashion seems to fall. Tyrese represents possibly many Black people that think having a gun will help them achieve and gain there goal. A gun is associated with crime which is a common mis interepreted stereotype of Black people.

The movies name is " Waist Deep" which would connote trouble. The typography, seems to be bold and sans serif which reiforces trouble and the boldness of the narrative. The colours used is pale blue but with a bit of black that is sprayed into some letters which connotes the mystery of the film. Also, the cast is an all African American cast and it seems to be in order of importance and significance each character has in the film.

"Hip- Hop Connection" is the un- disputed American magazine that informs many Hip-Hop listeners about the diverse culture of this certain music genre that represents culture and politics. In this issue, of Hip Hop Connection, the main featurette is the 7 time platinum West Coast rapper The Game. The background is white which connotes purity and goodness whereas, the image itself is juxtaposed against the background because the main image if the rapper is associated with drugs and guns. Being, a Black African American he conveys to many stereotypes that are associated through this single image but also through his music.

The image is positioned in the foreground, and takes up majority of the space which symbolises his dominance over the rap genre scene. The infrastructure of his body is quite atheletic which is assoicated with Black males as a stereotype which is placed by society but, his strong dominace look, also represents many of the young African Americans that are still living in the ghetto. The long shot of The Game really emphasises his mood and look on his face, the lighting helps compliament the serious inflammatory look. As, many people know, Black people are not infamous for smiling in photos they rather put on a mug shot, just like this image. Hip Hop Connection also published an article on him that was parrallel to this picture and had taken seceral pictures of him in the ghetto. His body gesture, also connotes the break of possibly colonism and the stereotype of "other" by him placing his two fists together in a strong way he is suggesting that Black people do not need to worry about anything, beacuse he has made it far. Lastly, his tattoos are an expression of art - tattoos are also referred and associated to Black males.

The image is centrally postioned and the taglines are placed around it. The two colours that are used on the magazine cover are red and black. The colour red would connote death or blood but in this case the useage of red represents the division in Compton, LA which is over the gang affilation. "Crips" represent Blue whereas, "Cedar Block Piru Bloods" represent the colour red thus the font being red because The Game was associated with the Bloods. The gang affilation is also, related to the rapper. The typography seems to be bold Aerial and font type Sans Serif which shows the dominace of the magazine in the print industry. Also, the only tagline that is in Black is the one associated with the game, this shows that he is the main feature in the magazine.

Reports have found out that a few newspapers have started to leak pout private and confidential innformation about celebrities but even more obtaining illegal information, all the newspapers were questioned. The Daily Mail came out the top one.

Came up in the top 10. Mr Thomas a commisoner has compiled a report on the tabloids and questions them why they are on the black market. The report is called "disappointing" which will be shown on the league tables of tabloids.

Another case is of someone who worked for Murdoch, Glen 'Trigger' Mulcaire is waiting for a sentence on taping into voicemails of the royal family and otrher celebrities that are associated with the Royals.

My opinion:

I personally feel these detectives are really stupid, did they not know that they would eventually get caught? Taping into peoples personal life is a intrusion into there personal lives even though, celebrities have exposed themselves into being in the lime light but every person no matter what class or status they have in society have the right of privacy. The sentences should be severe and maybe it will teach other newspapers who feel they can hire detectives to do dirty work should really consider the aspect of being caught

My demographic profiling would be 18, female, middle class, from Southall , West London, Britsh born but my ethnicity is Indian and my religion is Sikh.

PsychOgraphiC ProfilinG - Summary
This type of profiling is moving away from the demographic basic indentidfication but categorising audiences in terms of needs and motivation. This has a great profound impact on the consumers needs and desires, the advertisers also aim to link the ideologies of the product to those of the consumer.

My psychographic profiling would suggest that I am a hyrbrid of a mainstreamer and n aspirer but also, an individual. Firstly, the reasons why I am a mainstream/ aspirer is that I like to buy into brands that are well known this makes me feel that people will recognise what kind of person I am by what I wear. Brands such as Nike, Addidas, River Island and at times I like to buy into a lot of designer wear like Gucci, Evisu and Rocawear. Also, the type of music I listen to is also a reflection of what psychographic group I am in. I like to keep up to date with new songs and artists to show that I have the knowledge on a certain genre. However, I owuld also, class myself as an individual because I feel I do try and achieve my very best and how my appearance is at times I like to be different. During the 1960s the audience were starting to consume and make individual choices about the media they watched. Channel 4 news team are launching a blog, that will record their work offline but, also away from broadcast. This blog is able to track down certain views from the news teams, editorial but also, viewers are able to post postings. Some of the antisocial behaviour orders are taken up by teenagers, who claim they are“badge of honour” amongst people and the publications. Many youth workers and some judges and magistrates have serious reservations about ASBOs. These high professioned people believe there is an unfair trade towards anti social behaviour and are being oversued- this oversuing only requires a minum amount of envidence.

Around the nation, youth workers also say that ASBOs have had little positive impact on the behaviour of young people. Thebehaviour is treated as “minor transgressions”, which is quite violent but not a threat.However, residents plagued by yobbish behaviour welcome the “quick fix” that ASBOs provide, according to the study, by the Youth Justice Board, a quango. Its report is being published only hours after Tony Blair called for more involvement from communities in tackling nuisance behaviour by youngsters. Ministers have urged the public to demand action from the authorities to tackle antisocial behaviour.
Questions that have arised are whether ASBOs tackle the underlying cause of bad behaviour or are a “sticking-plaster”. Rod Morgan, chairman of the Youth Justice Board, said:

“The board is not against antisocial behaviour orders. They can — and do — work incredibly well.
“But for ASBOs to reduce the likelihood of future antisocial behaviour, they need to be used correctly. That means exhausting every preventive measure in the community first, and ensuring that youth offending teams are not excluded from issuing the orders.”

cERtain measurements that are taken u are things to do with the community, the ASBOs, which allow magistrates to impose conditions on people’s behaviour, were introduced in 1999, end of September last year 7,356 had been imposed. Breaching an order can lead to a jail term.

Overall, people are trying to reuce the amount of ASBOS and the causes of violence and aggression.!!!

Opinion: I feel ASBO tackling is a important factor in our society for living in southall and Greenford there are ASBOs that are scattered around. Tony Blair improving and sorting out a report will be influencial if he takes it up with his peers and actually start to take action.

In Washington, October 26th President Bush signs a bill that is construcyed of 700 mile fence along along the southwestern border. But still is calling for a more intensive immigration laws. Bush says "It is an important step toward immigration reform"The bill is what the House of Republicans want the lower house, wheras the Senate didnt. The bill provided for a guest worker program and eventual citizenship for immingrants, as well as border security.

The House Republicans disliked anything that would challenge amnesty for illegal immigrants,
Eventually, Mr. Bush realized that his desire for “comprehensive” immigration reform was dead, at least for this election year, so he bowed to political reality and embraced the border-security concept, at least for the time being. On Sept. 29, the Senate approved construction of 700 miles of fence, the House had passed the bill earlier in September.

Bush said “I want to thank the members of Congress for their work on this important piece of legislation,”but also, “Ours is a nation of immigrants. We’re also a nation of law. Unfortunately, the United States has not been in complete control of its borders for decades, and therefore illegal immigration has been on the rise.” In addition to the fence, the bill Mr. Bush signed today provides for more vehicle barriers, checkpoints and advance technology to better secure the border with Mexico. There were some critics to this Bill and they are still thinking about if it will really help stop people crossing the border.The spending budget on the bill provided $1.2 billion for the fence and accompanying technology advances.

My opinion: Well, I feel that having a program for immigrants is exactly the same thing as Roosevelt di for the New Deal creating schemes to better America. This wall/fence may help Mexico but, I doubt as well that it will stop immigrants from crossing.

Google, the world's best internet search engine is in converstaion about purchasing Youtube a growing video sharer website. The Wall Street Journal is too buyout the video site for $1.6bn which is £855 million. The W.S.J is claiming that the discussions could easily take place at any moment.

YouTube was founded about 18 months ago and it is reported that they have held discussions with numerous companies in discussing the overtake- even though the founder/ chief executive, Chad Hurley, said previously that YouTube was not for sale.They has been many protests many people see the site as the "world's biggest' site that delievers more than 100m videos each day. YouTube are possibliy facing a sue case from Universal saying that they are going to sue it for "copyright infringement"

Google is one of the companies that is linked to the new speculation of video sites- the editor Michael Arrington from Silicon Valley blog Techcrunch, said he recieved information on the possible talks "I got an email tonight about a possible Google aquisition of YouTube that may be in the final stages before closing. Rumored price $1.6 billion", he wrote "A quick phone call to a VC confirmed that the rumour is circulating (he also confirmed the price), but that is far from confirmation that this deal is happening."

A spokeswoman for Google said the company refused to comment on any speculation, and YouTube was unavailable for comment. The W.S.J recently claimed that Yahoo was on the verge of buying the social networking site Facebook, run by a 22year old graduate Mark Zuckerberg for a figure of around $1bn. As yet no further evidence of a possible link between the two companies has emerged.

Cultural Homogenisation is when our cultural views are portrayed through the media, allowing media consumers to be aware of the values and ideologies that are being presented to us.

Cultural Imperialism is when critics that follow culture refer back to the British Empire andwhen it dominated many places and educated people with the British values and ideologies.

Bush Says He Is ‘Dismayed’ by Foley Scandal

President Bush has mentioned that he was "dismayed and shocked" by the several emails and instant messages he recieved from the former Representative Mark Foley who sent the emails and messages to the teenage Congressional pages, addressing an issue that can cost the Republican Party seats in the upcoming November election.

J. Dennis Hastert (speaker) has had Bush's support after being fired in the last couple of days for not taking more aggresive and direct action, once him and his colleges of the House Republican leadership had learnt that Foley was sending sexual and explicit messages to a teengaer and to his parents. Mr Bush has concluded that he is trying to get across the party's signature issue which is national security and the war on terror however, the scandalised Foley has his issue threatening the overall message.

Bush quoted in Stockton, California " I was dismayed and shocked to learn about Congressman Foley's unacceptable behaviour". While talking to the press Bush was going to an opening of a school that was dedicated in his name he also, said: “I was disgusted by the revelation and disappointed that he would violate the trust of the citizens who placed him in office.”. On Friday, Foley resigned and found out that ABC news were about to broadcast a news report that was about his online fun with a 16 year old teenage BOY in Louisiana in 2005.

Over the duration of a few days more conversations have been revealed between Foley and the teenage boy. One email suggested that they had met in person with another young man outside Capital Hill and was involved in a relationship. Many Republicans are blaming Foley for possibly a low turnout towards the Republican side and their conservative values. Another, blame is on Mr Hasteret who is quite sure that he does not recall of the online messages.The president defended Mr. Hastert. “I know Denny Hastert,” Mr. Bush said. “I meet with him a lot. Foley who is representing the district in South Florida has checked himself into an alchol rehabilitation program. David Roth, Foley's lawyer has denied that Foley has had any physical contact with any minor.“Mark Foley has never, ever had inappropriate sexual contact with a minor in his life,” Mr. Roth said. “He is absolutely, positively not a pedophile.”

Paramount Motion Pitures celebrated its 94th anniversary in 2006, the company started from July12,1912 and has been carrying on ever since then. The founder of Paramount was a man called Adolph Zukor who also was the founder of the production company Famous Players Film Corp. Even now Paramount still stick with their slogan " If it's a Paramount Picture, it's the best show in town".

In 1912, Zukor secured the American distrubution rights to a woman called Sarah Bernhart's who created a for reel film called Queen Elizabeth. Queen Elizabeth was the first full length drama show in the USA. Famous Players began to produce movies in New York and the first film "The Prisoner of Zenda" but also, " The Count of Monte Cristo". Later on, Zukor invested in a film distrubution company called Paramount Pictures.

Four years later, 1916 was Paramounts turning point - Paramount was about to combine with The Jesse L. Lasky Company, which was a Hollywood distrubutor and producing films, Zukor and Lasky created a new studio on Marathon Street, Hollywood, where the company actually stands since 1916.

Paramounts earliest stars were director Cecil B. DeMille and William S. Hart and stars such as Mary Pickford, Rudolf Valentino and Clara Bow. In 1928, Paramount produced "Wings" which recieved the very first Academy Award for "Best Picture", from the members if the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Gulf and Western Industries, Inc. had all control of Paramount on March 24th, 1966 - the comapny turned its interest towards the new entertainment company division. On June5, 1989 the Gulf and Western Industries was renamed Paramount Communications Inc.

On March 11, 1994, Paramount combined with Viacom under the influence of Sumner Redstone, chairman of the board and chief executive officer.Paramount Pictures, together with Paramount Television, CBS Television, Simon & Schuster Publishing, MTV Networks, Showtime Networks, Infinity, BET, UPN, Paramount Parks and Blockbuster Entertainment are all joined the entertainment leader, Viacom Inc. Paramount Pictures is the only major motion picture studio located in Hollywood.

Over the internet many people from different ages, face bullying however, a internet site called Bebo which is similar to MySpace is intending to put a stop to cyber bullies. Bebo is a site that looks after the right and protects young people from bullies but, its main objective is too put a stop to cyber bullying.

Dr Rachel O'Connel is Bebo's head corporate and arranged a social responsibility meeting with leading educational website company called London Grid for Learning too see if, they can create the multimedia tools and booklets to help both teachers and students at tackling better learning skills but, also to stop the increasing ratio of cyber bullying. The meetings main objective was to create a new "virtual learning environment that schools are developing".

London Grid for Learning supports the communication of teaching and learning across the schools curriculum.

On a day to day base many young people are dependent on the use of the world wide web, the internet is used for homework but also entertainment, however, having the certain perks to using the internet also allows bullying to occur that can be very serious. In addition, both leading companies are looking to put an ultimate stop to the use of bullying however, there was a report that was published that stated "Bebo and MySpace were found as exposing unsuitable advertising, pornographic images and bullying"

Ms O'Connel is defence mentioned that the users of Bebo are allowed to use the "anti bulying tool" which will prevent the use off harsh postings and offence images. She carried on to explain that Bebo users would be able to "pre - vet" material and that this is the " first raft of safety and security measurement we intend to introduce"

Lastly, Bebo has signed to the Departement for Education and Skills that will newly form the bullying taskforce.

My opinion: In my opinion I feel that Ms O'Connel have spotted a problem in the internet and are trying to come up with a fast result to achieve their certain objective. In actuality, it may be hard to stop all sorts of cyber bullying but I can see that Bebo are determined to work with schools to achieve the best in the school curriculum.
